Welcome from President Farmer
4:32 Roll Call
Meeting began without a quorum. (informational only)
*changes with support staff
-Drop Out Prevention Officers, Paraprofessionals and Clerks will all be evaluated at least once a year. CEA and NJEA are working together attempting to make it a pilot its first year. This will prevent the results from counting this school year.
-CCPS is trying to make a paraprofessional position similar to CSC position that was abolished last school year.
-Pam Garwood has rewritten evaluation for paraprofessionals.
-Roll out planned for DOPO (October) paras (November) and clerks (Dec. /Jan.). Pres. Farmer will meet with E. Nielsen.
-This is being driven by the state. It’s not just occurring in Camden.
-better turn out at workshops this year than last year
-Encourage members to show up at all workshops that are offered. It’s all about helping you improve your craft and making you more knowledgeable.
-One evaluation isn’t sufficient. If teachers get more than one, so should paras.
-Doyle Smith: Create a survey to see how things turn out from observations. Create a spreadsheet from the results. Evaluation Committee can review and analyze.
-Cade-Turner: What is the purpose? Evaluation for what? They haven’t received any training. The teachers received an enormous amount of training prior to roll out. The same should occur for the paraprofessionals.
Farmer: We have already informed CCPS that the paras need training.
-ECDC rep: Paras have already started lesson planning.
– Will there be a difference in the evaluations for PreK, K and Spec. Ed?
Farmer: Great question. We’ll look into it.
Lupino: Are we being held accountable for attendance if we are under a doctor’s care?
Farmer: Yes. CEA has been fighting increment withholdings. Arbitration will be in April. Leadership has got your back. We need your support. Please come to work. Commissioner is the only one that can turn the judgement around. We are presently without a Commissioner of Education.
Doyle-Smith: I would like a list of Head Building Reps names. Evaluation Committee meeting will be held 10/24 at the Ferry Ave. Library. FYI…Email address – firstname.lastname@example.org You can request a teacher evaluation form (Inquiry Sheet).
Be sure to keep copies of evaluations and artifacts. We can fight back with documentation.
Those with CAPS should email information to email@example.com
TeachBoost – Prior information not available yet from Teachscape.
Email Mr. Pillsbury firstname.lastname@example.org with concerns.
Walk Through Forms should not have formal scores on them. (numbers or words)
Use your Walk Through comments to prepare for the observation.
Pellot: Strange how the same lesson plan can be scored differently from year to year.
Cade-Turner: What happens after a rebuttal has been submitted and things still don’t change?
Farmer: Only one case noted out of 55 in which the tenure charged was dropped.
Lupino: It appears that the District is purposely bombarding the arbitrators with the large number of cases.
*Good of the Order:
– Please keep anecdotal records.
-request of Mr. Farmer to ask Superintendent to correct date of last day of school. It should state June 16th.
5:39 – meeting adjourned

-Is this just for an election year?
-Do we have to go to each school?
-When does the process begin and end?
- Brown (McGraw): Expressed concern about not receiving information at their school.
Cooper: Her goal is to make sure everyone knows that there is a process and that information gets disseminated to all schools.
-Nielson expects members to have an appointment scheduled by November 23rd.
-CEA is trying to get compensation or reimbursement for those that had to do it again.
-date may be pushed back
Cooper: clarification- The audit showed that many didn’t have it done. So, now they’re requesting that you do it again. The audit may not show accurate information.
-P. Dabriel() – He has served 25 years in the district and received the letter also. He is presently getting the run around even after doing all that was requested.
-email should be sent to Shannon James at CCPS
-K. Luke(Brimm) –The situation surrounding the Physical Education teachers at his school showed a birthdate issue created the audit error.
-E. Aron (Davis) – Legal informed her that they sent out the wrong form.
-If absences and/or latenesses are excessive, increment withholdings will continue
-D. Luppino(Dudley) – Does this apply to those out on medical leave?
-Glass (Bonsall) – A member with medical issues was instructed to get a 504.
-R. Bookman (McGraw) – suggestion to possibly add intermittent to next contract
-E. Aron (Davis) – We should be able to do intermittent for half days instead of putting
in for a full day substitute. She was told she couldn’t take a half day for FMLA
although we are allowed to do so.
Clark- It’s easier to get a substitute for a whole day rather than a half day.
– District PD scheduled for 1-5pm on a half day for students.
-problem: Half day schedules don’t allow for full lunch and prep periods.
-Representatives from downtown will be in each building during the PD session.
-Some schools have voted to work straight through. Not encouraged nor recommended by CEA. We do not wish to establish a pattern that breaks contractual agreements.
-D. Lupino stated that there was a 45 minute lunch period already in the half day schedule.
-V. Pellot – Lunch duty is assigned during lunch periods on half days.
-E. Davis – PD then break for unassigned time…after break PD continues
-problem: All teachers are not required to stay in some schools if the PD isn’t applicable to them.
-Blake: A conversation with the Superintendent will be held with regards to PD concerns.
-D. Luppino – Every administrator isn’t adhering to the schedule the District created. PDs are not on the same day as required.
-Blake: Forest Hill had that issue. A conversation was held and the situation rectified. Please notify CEA if you need assistance.
-Glass- Can it be rescheduled? PD is scheduled the day before a holiday break and the day after report card conferences.
-Comment: Pellot – No sense of care for humanity. Wilson had a meeting with the Superintendent without administrators. It was a good meeting. We have to push back! Let them know how we feel.
-We should have been notified earlier about the change in days for District PDs.
Blake: We found out late as well.
-Zahn – We will send a survey out inquiring about interests/concerns that need to be included or addressed in the next contract.
-Cooper – Officers/Exec members will run these concerns by Central Administration.
-Pellot (WWHS) – Instead of waiting, call and express that it won’t wait until Monday. Monday will be too late.
-Glass ( ) – We often hear that CEA doesn’t do anything. We have to do something big for members to recognize that we are working. Getting the PD changed would be something big that the members will appreciate.
Blake: Moving forward we still have to work to the contract.
-shared suggested amendments and additions
-gave explanation of diminishing quorum
Three readings will be necessary before voting to place on the ballot.
-Clark: ESPs didn’t make out well in last contract. Try to get your members involved!
-L. Hardwick will not be participating in anything regarding the election.
Good of the Order
-Committee leaders and reps need to submit minutes to L. Hardwick.
-Mr. Farmer isn’t present due to attendance at NJEA President’s meeting.
-have unassigned time just like the classroom teacher
-should follow the teacher’s schedule with regard to District PDs
-are entitled to missed prep pay
Zahn: Motion to adjourn, 2nd E. Davis
